Website Update - Top 10 Page List for November & December 2013

Top 10 ListAnother month has come and gone, so it's time to look over the server logs again. This time, however, I noticed that I completely missed this top 10 list in November, so today's entry gives you two months for the price of one.

There's a lot of shuffling around that's been going on for a few months that continued these past two months. While over half of the pages on the list had made the top 10 list before, the rankings from month to month vary quite widely. Plus, there were quite a few newcomers. November had three - Carter Wind Energy, Another Similarity Between Osiris & Jesus, and Our Litigious Society?. And December actually had five newcomers - Review of Ray Comfort's New Movie - Evolution vs. God, Part I, The Universe Is Big, Friday Bible Blogging - 2 Chronicles 31 to 2 Chronicles 36, Response to Global Warming Denialist E-mail - Volcanoes and Global Cooling, and Friday Bible Blogging - The Book. I really must say that I'm quite pleased to see that batch of newcomers as I think they're pretty good entries. I'm especially proud of the Ray Comfort one because of Ray's special place on this blog (my first real entry), and because it reached the top 10 so quickly. It usually takes a little while for my new pages to become popular. I also have to call special attention to the Universe is Big one. I love the picture in that one. It's incomprehensible just how vast the universe is.

My Autogyro History & Theory page made the list in November, but not December. It's not that it had substantially less traffic, just that other pages had so much more. Actually, it was way down in December - 23rd if I counted right.

Traffic was still up, but I suspect a lot of that was spammers. I had a few hundred spam comments get through in just a couple days. I have a pretty simple spam protection set up - just a very simple text box that has to be filled out correctly per instructions directly above the box. It's the same instructions and box on every page, so I guess once one spammer figures out the word, they can pass it along to all the other spammers they work with. Anyway, I changed the word and the spam actually making through the filter dropped off almost entirely. That ought to work for a few months, at least.

Anyway, here were the ten most popular pages on this site for the end of 2013.

Website Update - Top 10 Page List for October 2013

Top 10 ListWith the end of October, it's that time again when I take a look at the server logs to see how the site's been doing. As far as overall traffic, it's similar to the previous month, i.e. pretty high compared to what it had been. Depending on which measure you want to use for traffic, in some ways (unique visitors, visits) October was busier than September, but in other ways (pages, hits) it was a bit lower.

I had three pages that made the list for the first time - Gamera II Human Powered Helicopter Sets New Record, Chick-Fil-A, Bigotry, and Rights (though it was close last month, and I included it in a special edition Top 13 list), and Response to E-mail: One Nation Under Wal-Mart?.

I've noticed a few pages that made the list, I suspect, because of recent news events - Gamera II Human Powered Helicopter Sets New Record probably related to Aerovelo winning the Sikorsky Prize, Obamacare Lives (A Discussion of the Individual Mandate) probably related to the rollout of the Insurace Exchange websites, and Texas Board of Education - Bad Results for Science Standards probably being related to the upcoming Texas science textbook adoption vote.

I am greatly relieved to see my Autogyro History & Theory page back in the top 10.

Anyway, here were the ten most popular pages on this site last month.

Website Update - Top 10 (+3) Page List for September 2013

Top 10 ListIt's time for my monthly routine of looking over the server logs to see how things have been going on this site. The trend from last month has continued, with overall traffic increasing even more. By all measures except one (bandwidth), September 2013 was the busiest month ever for my website, and by a large margin in most cases. For example, page views were up 39% from last month, and 253% from the next highest month. And even bandwidth was just barely lower than it was for the highest month - 99.2%. I suspect this has to do with increased spammers, but I hope it's also due to more legitimate traffic.

I'm actually going to list the top 13 pages this month, since they all had similar traffic, and were clearly separated from the rest of the pages. The only one of these that hadn't made the top 10 list before was the blog entry, Chick-Fil-A, Bigotry, and Rights. Technically, it still hasn't made the top 10, but this is still far more views than the page had ever received before. Sadly, my Autogyro History & Theory page missed the list for the second month in a row, despite having its second highest monthly total ever.

Here were the thirteen most popular pages on this site last month.

Top 10+3 for September 2013

Website Update - Top 10 Page List for August 2013

Top 10 ListAnother month down, another month to check the server logs. Every page but one that made the list had made it at least once before, but it was still quite a shake-up. The first timer was the blog entry, Evolution No More a Fact than the Civil War. And several of the pages hadn't made the list in years, such as Book Review - Evolution: What the Fossils Say and Why It Matters and Response to an E-Mail Supposedly Summarizing Dr. Charles Krauthammer's Views on Obama. The biggest surprise is that my Autogyro History & Theory didn't make the list at all, for the first time ever. As I wrote last week when it looked like it was slipping, it's not that it's getting less views, but rather that other entries are getting more.

As far as overall traffic, it's a bit crazy. A couple stats, such as Number of Visits and Pages were the highest they've ever been, the latter by around a 70% margin. I'm not sure exactly what's going on. I'm not getting a huge influx of spam comments, so I don't think it's spammers, unless the comments are all getting junked by my spam filter and I'm just not seeing them. Hmm, I just checked my spam folder, and it is pretty full, so maybe that has something to do with it. Oh well, I'm going to pretend that the world at large has finally discovered me and that the increased popularity is real, not a bunch of Southeast Asian Captcha sweatshop workers making $3 a day.

Oh well, here were the ten most popular pages on this site last month.

Website Update - Top 10 Page List for July 2013

Top 10 ListAnother month has come and gone, so like I normally do, it's time to look at the server logs to see what pages were most popular last month. Every page that made the list had made it at least once before, so no big surprises. I was happy to see my blog entry, Friday Bible Blogging - Joshua 1 to Joshua 10 make the list for the second time. I know that the Bible blogging entries are never going to be hugely popular, but they take a lot of time to put together, so it's nice to see people reading them. I've also noticed my Autogyro History & Theory page slipping further in the rankings. It used to be far and away the most popular page on this site, but starting in May of last year, it began trading the top spot with blog entries, particularly A Skeptical Look at MBT Shoes. May of this year was the first time it slipped lower than second, and then this past month, it was down all the way to fourth. It's not that the Autogyro History & Theory page is becoming less popular. Really, it's held fairly steady since I began keeping track of these things, and in fact, received its most monthly hits in January of this year. Rather, my blog entries have been steadily increasing in popularity.

As far as overall traffic, like I've written in the past several of these updates, it depends on what stats, in particular, you're looking at. In general, traffic has been on par with what it's been for the past several months, though down just a bit from last month.

So, here are the top 10 pages from this site from last month.
