In October of 2005, Irma and I went along on a medical mission to Guatemala, organized by the Wichita County Medical Alliance, and hosted by Agape in Action. Irma's a nurse, so she scrubbed in and circulated at the hospital. I'm not medically trained, so I mostly washed and sterilized instruments, along with any other odd jobs that needed to be done. We spent 5 days working in Quiche, two days sightseeing (in Quiche and Antigua), and the rest of the time travelling. We were there when Hurricane Stan caused the devastating mudslides and floods, so for a short time we were worried about the highway being closed and us being stuck there, but the Guatemalans worked hard and had the roads cleared overnight. It was a very worthwhile trip to help as many people as we did. All photos below were taken with a 4 MP Sony digital camera.
